Geodata comprises of information on proportional shares of geological units in the catchment, the average slope in the catchment and the catchment area upstream of each site. Data from ID values CG 12 to CG 18 were derived from discharge values measured by the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST). Data from ID values CG1 to CG11 were de-rived from water level data measured by METER/Decagon CTD pressure transducers in stilling wells. EC values were classified into no-flow situations for EC-values below 25microSi/cm and flow situation for EC-values above 25microSi/cm.Ĭonventional Gauges are divided into two sub-datasets. Onset HOBO Pendant waterproof temperature and light data logger (Model UA-002-64, Onset Com-puter Corp, Bourne, MA, USA) with modified light sensor to measure electric conductivity were used to monitor electric conductivity (EC) as proposed by Chapin et al. This method was closely related to a time-lapse camera gauging system published by Gilmore et al. For improved image analysis a gauging plate was installed in the channel. Cameras were mounted at trees or structures close to the channel. Time lapse mon-itoring was realized with the internal software with a temporal resolution of 15 minutes. Methods Time-lapse Imageryĭörr Snapshot Mini 5.0 consumer wildlife cameras were used for time-lapse imagery. It can be used to test and evaluate hydrologic models, but also for the assessment of the intermittent stream ecosystem in the Attert basin. The dataset features data from catchments covering all geologi-cal characteristics from single geology to mixed geology. The catchment covers three predominant geologies: Slate, Marls and Sandstone. Hydrological regimes are mainly driven by seasonal fluctuations in evapotranspiration caus-ing flow to cease in intermittent reaches during dry periods. Climate conditions across the catchment are rather similar in terms of temperature and pre-cipitation. The elevation of the catchment ranges from 245 m a.s.l. The Attert basin is located in the border region of Luxembourg and Belgium and covers an area of 247 km². The dataset provides valuable information of the dynamics of a meso-scale stream network in space and time. Each single dataset was carefully processed and quality controlled before the time interval was homogenized to 30 minutes. Temporal resolution ranged from 5 to 15 minutes intervals. (2013) while the setup for EC-sensor was proposed by Chapin et al. Setup for time-lapse imagery measurements was inspired by Gilmore et al. The first sites of observation were established in 2013 and successively extended to a total number of 182 in 2016 as part of the project “Catchments As Organized Systems” (CAOS, Zehe et al., 2014). We used different sensing techniques including time-lapse imagery, electric conductivity and stage measurements to generate a combined dataset of presence and absence of streamflow within a large number of nested sub-catchments in the Attert Catchment, Luxembourg. The time series did not change and are not included in the V1.0 zip folder. The version 1.0 is available in the "previous-versions" subfolder via the Data Download link. This version includes additionally the catchment boundaries provided as subfolder of geodata.zip. 1/14/2024 0 Comments Shifty shellshock 2022The group’s two founders were both guys who’d grown up around the industry. As the ’80s went on, more and more rock bands made clumsily spirited attempts at something resembling rap: Anthrax on “I’m The Man,” Faith No More on “We Care A Lot,” the Red Hot Chili Peppers on a whole lot of bullshit.Īround the turn of the millennium, those rap-rock bands were big enough that various music-business hangers-on started forming their own bands. (The rappers got booed offstage.) The Beastie Boys were a punk band that improbably became the biggest rap group in the world. Kurtis Blow had a Bachman-Turner Overdrive cover on his first album, and the Clash imitated Grandmaster Flash’s Furious Five on “The Magnificent Seven” and then booked the actual Furious Five to open for them in New York. The two genres didn’t exist in isolation they’d been in conversation ever since rap first arrived in popular consciouness. They had been usurped rappers were the new cultural leaders. By the late ’80s, plenty of rock bands had noticed that they were no longer the coolest or most revolutionary musicians on the scene. Rap-rock seemed to dominate the universe for three or four years, but as far as the Hot 100 is concerned, “Butterfly” is the only hit of its kind. During that same era, the Creed-style post-grunge yarlers did a lot better on the pop charts. The biggest bands from that genre sold millions of records and packed arenas for years, but none of them - not Korn, not Limp Bizkit, not Kid Rock, not Papa Roach, not even Linkin Park - ever made it to #1. “Butterfly” is the only song that ever came out of the late-’90s rap-rock wave and topped the Hot 100. But “Butterfly” also represents a kind of culmination. Maybe it’s better if you just imagine that someone hit the special-move button.Ĭrazy Town are true one-hit wonders “Butterfly” is the band’s only song that ever appeared on the Billboard Hot 100 in any capacity. But that moment doesn’t have to mean anything. I’m not sure what that moment is supposed to mean in the “Butterfly” video, especially given that “Butterfly” is essentially the dumbest love song that’s ever made it to #1. He raises his arms up into the Jesus Christ pose, and the two star tattoos on his muscled-up shoulders shoot off into the sky, becoming some kind of heavenly projection. He should be throwing jumpkicks in a C-level fighting game.Ī little more than a minute into the video for “Butterfly,” Crazy Town’s one and only hit, Shifty Shellshock even hits a video game move. This guy simply shouldn’t exist on the physical plane. He’s got it all: The juiced-up musculature, the constant shirtlessness, the carefully sculpted facial hair, the hazardously gelled-up spiky frosted tips, the big honking chin, the wide array of facial piercings. Shifty, one of the two rappers in the Los Angeles band Crazy Town, looks exactly like a game designer’s idea of a circa-2001 cool guy. Nobody in human history has ever looked more like a video game character than Shifty Shellshock in the “Butterfly” video. In The Number Ones, I’m reviewing every single #1 single in the history of the Billboard Hot 100, starting with the chart’s beginning, in 1958, and working my way up into the present. You’ve got enough track to build eight course layouts (with risers for looping designs), plus two cars for head-to-head battles or races against an A.I. Expand? Eh…Īnd it all comes together really well with the Starter Kit. That’s a very cool benefit that shows the real potential of connected toys: it’s not just about replacing an RC remote with your phone screen. Small speed and shield boosts help your car on the track, as do the customizable weapons that open up along the way. More importantly, the app provides a sense of progression: you’ll earn experience and in both campaign and standalone events and level your car up, which allows you to tap into upgrades. It loops through races and combat-centric battle events, and while it’s not the most enthralling quest, it provides a bit of context so you’re not just repeatedly running plain races when friends aren’t around. First is the campaign mode, which delivers a series of increasingly challenging races with just enough of a storyline to drive your ascent in the futuristic racing league. They scan the track to learn the route, and then during the race they can detect their place on the track, as well as the other cars.īut the app also enriches the experience in two other key ways. You don’t actually drive the cars manually. It also provides sound effects, spoken dialogue, and music, adding a crucial theatrical element to the experience. It’s the home control panel that lets you set up events, customize your virtual driver, and see which cartoonish opponents inhabit the A.I.-controlled cars you’re battling against. In fact, while the physical components make Anki Overdrive feel like a video game come to life, the Overdrive app itself really propels the experience. Your phone vibrates, the cars light up and slow down, and it gives the game a Mario Kart-esque allure. Other weapons might stall you on the track for a couple seconds, weaken your armor against further attacks, or show your momentum with machine gun fire. If you’re hit with a tractor beam, for example, you’ll slow down and the foe who zapped you will blast ahead. No, they’re not physical projectiles or attacks (I can dream), but rather virtual volleys that resonate within the app. Winning races and battles nets you upgrades for your weapons and cars. The latter point is important, since Anki Overdrive has a secret, unseen weapon: weapons. You’ll lightly steer the car by tilting your phone or tablet, so you can lean into turns or position yourself behind a rival. It’s so cool to see them whip around the course for the first time, but you’ve got a job to do. Anki’s little sprinters are impressively speedy as they auto-accelerate around the tracks, constantly scanning the infrared markings on the pieces to maintain position as they zip along. After connecting to the Anki Overdrive app on your iPhone, iPad, or Android device, they’ll do a slow lap or two around the course and learn the layout.Īnd then they’re off-quickly, too. You get two with the box, and they’ll need about 10 minutes on the included charging dock to be fully juiced up they run upwards of 20 minutes once charged. Unlike traditional slot cars, these very thin, plastic tracks aren’t electrified: it’s the cars themselves. It's slated to launch in October. The magnetized track pieces snap together. For $100, the Hot Wheels AI package includes two cars, 20 pieces of track, and a pair of controllers. You'll also pay less compared to Anki's Overdrive Starter Kit. But the Hot Wheels system may have a longer shelf life thanks to the cars' standalone R/C skills: The included remotes offer simple left/right thumbstick controls, as well as triggers for forward and reverse. Advanced mode involves more user input and higher speeds, and an Expert mode unlocks the cars' top speeds and forces you to take complete control.Īnki's system tries to be like a real-world video game, while this Hot Wheels system is more like a pair of easily controlled R/C cars with video-game-like elements thrown in. The easiest is a no-brainer Beginner mode that keeps your car on the road no matter what, and at snoozy low speeds. There are three driving modes to choose from. The system also keeps tracks of each lap as you complete it, and a speaker in each controller barks out your position in the race and your fastest lap times. Unlike Anki's cars, they don't know competing cars' positions on the track, but you can launch virtual oil slicks and missiles to disrupt cars in front of you. The AI in these cars is limited to their ability to read the track in real-time, as well as some digital weaponry you can use to sabotage your opponent. 1/14/2024 0 Comments Nagaokama higo no kamiMade to Order and Final Sale Furniture items are non-returnable and cannot be cancelled once the order is placed.įor returns of items purchased from your Williams Sonoma Gift Registry, we will gladly provide a refund or exchange for the merchandise within 90 days of your event or within 90 days of purchase, whichever date is later. item 5 Higo no kami Chrome Knife Steel XL 120mm Japan import JAPAN IMPORT Higo no kami Chrome Knife Steel XL 120mm Japan import JAPAN IMPORT. The FEs best days in SK were short lived and never were all that great, mostly due to shear numbers of boats that were FE powered in SK. Using readily available passenger car cranks was much cheaper and they were pretty bullet proof.Įverything about building a 394 FE was expensive compared to the 392 hemi, and by the time they had them running with the hemis, the 396 chevy was taking over. Plus the pistons were a custom order deal and not cheap at all. Buying a new truck crank back then was not a cheap deal, and then you had to have the snout cut down. One hiccup in buying a 361 from a wrecking yard for it's crank is that not all 361 cranks were forged, where all 391 cranks were. When they did use a steel truck crank, it was the 361. I still have 2 352 cast cranks that were used in a SK, as well as the brand new, never ran steel, crossed drilled crank that came out of the crate engine that was built into a 394 (397. Not to mention the hordes of marathon wins with the 406s, and they held up just fine, and the 352 crank is much stronger than both the 428 and 406 cranks. Lot of 428 CJs out there making more power and spinning more Rs than a 60s de-stroked SK engine ever did. The cast cranks hold fine at that cubic inch and HP they were making. All low rise and early hi rise FEs had cast cranks, non cross drilled cranks. You are assuming they were side oilers and hi rise or even med rise, or that hi risers even had steel cranks to begin with. Depended on the year the engine was built. 1/14/2024 0 Comments Are you listening to me right nowI realised that I make a huge conscious effort to listen to people when I’m coaching them. Bringing listening skills into the workplaceĪs a coach, listening is a key part of my skill set. □ Not thinking about what you want to ask them next. □ Not waiting for them to pause so you can speak □ Not multi-tasking by reading your emails □ Not being distracted by notifications (that the other person can hear) Perhaps it’s time we took a step back to consider how much attention we give the people around us. Can you see a benefit of understanding your team better? When did you last make a conscious effort to really listen to someone? The first four levels of listening really only benefit yourself, but empathetic listening is about the person speaking. Unfortunately, it’s the one that we see the least often, particularly in the workplace. As a people leader, this is a way to really understand the individuals in your team. Empathetic listeningĮmpathetic listening is a skill that allows you to really relate to the person you are talking to. Also called active listening, this means you’re paying attention to what is being said (and not being said!) so that you can really try to understand what the other person means, how they feel, and what they need. You’re paying attention to what is being said, but only so that you can then use that information yourself.Įmpathetic listening. You’re only listening to the bare bones of what someone has to say, while you find the parts that will support what you want to say.Īttentive Listening. You’re not really registering what they have to say, because you’re focused on your own actions or thoughts. But if you’re the one talking, you know when you’re being ignored, and how it makes you feel. You might not consider this to be a form of listening. I love the way he describes the five levels of listening and how we can identify them in ourselves and our relationships in the workplace. Named by Time magazine as one of the 25 most influential people, Stephen Covey was a best-selling author and educator. American author and businessman, Stephen Covey, called this Pretend Listening, in his book, The 8th Habit. That moment someone you’re with picks up their phone or glances at their emails, you know they’re not really listening. There’s a lot more to listening than you might think. How many times have you been talking to someone as they stare at their phone? Or are you the one checking your notifications while someone’s talking to you? You say you’re paying attention. In fact, this assumption enabled physicists to deduce that the temperature of a gas is related to the average kinetic energy of the molecules within it, a concept we will return to shortly. This enabled him to calculate the force a molecule would exert when traveling at a particular speed, something difficult to measure, and relate that to the pressure, something easily measured. This was expanded on by the Austrian high school teacher Josef Loschmidt (1821–1895) who, in 1865, combined Avogadro’s conclusion with the assumption that atoms and molecules move very much as elastic objects, think billiard balls. In 1811 he proposed that, under conditions of equal temperature and pressure, equal volumes of gases contained equal numbers of particles (molecules) and that the densities of the gases, that is their weight divided by their volume, were proportional to the weight of the individual molecules. The first step, along this direction, was made by Amedeo Avogadro (1776–1856). More evidence began to accumulate, more elements were discovered, and it even became possible to calculate the number of atoms in a particular sample. By 1900 the atomic theory was almost universally accepted by chemists. Neils Bohr (1865–1962)ĭalton’s theory of atoms as indivisible, indestructible, objects of different sizes, weights, and perhaps shapes, depending on the element, held up for almost 100 years, although there was considerable dissent about whether atoms really existed, particularly among philosophers. But the opposite of a profound truth may well be another profound truth. The opposite of a correct statement is a false statement. |
